Introducing AlkeDevs - an initiative dedicated to helping African software engineers learn Bitcoin by building in the open.
We’re excited to officially launch AlkeDevs - an initiative built by African developers, for African developers, focused on Bitcoin and open-source development.
Why AlkeDevs?
Africa has a growing community of talented developers, but access to quality Bitcoin education and open-source mentorship remains limited. We’re here to change that.
Our name “Alke” draws from the rich heritage of African innovation and engineering. Just as our ancestors built remarkable systems and structures, we’re building the next generation of Bitcoin builders.
What We’re Building
AlkeDevs is more than just a learning platform. We’re building:
- Bitcoin Builders Fellowship: A main program for software engineers learning Bitcoin by shipping in public
- Study Programs: Structured learning tracks like “Learning Bitcoin from the Command Line”
- Meetups: Regular gatherings in Accra, with remote participation where possible, to connect, share, and learn
- A Community: A supportive network of developers helping each other grow as Bitcoin builders
Our Philosophy
We believe in:
- Learning by doing - The best way to understand Bitcoin is to build with it
- Open source first - Contributing to real projects, not just tutorials
- Community over competition - We rise by lifting others
- Accessibility - All our programs are free because cost shouldn’t be a barrier
